Paralysed Claire Lomas finishes London Marathon 16 days after it began
Baku, May 10 (AzerTAc). 32-year-old Claire Lomas was on the Daybreak sofa this morning to talk about becoming the first woman to complete the London marathon using a bionic suit.
She said she was "over the moon" to finish the 26.2 mile route, which she started on April 22 with 36,000 other participants.
She said she could not believe the level of support from the public and that "she was still in shock" by the immense kindness and good wishes she received.
Claire was given a guard of honour by members of the Household Cavalry when she crossed the finishing line on the Mall, and crowds lined up to applaud her achievement.
She also revealed she had received fourteen medals from members of the public who ran the London marathon and completed it on the day.
She said her fourteen donated medals mean so much more to her than receiving one from the organisers.
Claire said she is now looking forward to spending quality time recovering with her family and responding to all the messages of support she received.
She said the achievement was not just hers as she could not have done it without her family, her mum and dad, her friends, and of course her husband who was behind her every step of the way.
