68 violators detained during riots in Bishkek

The police detained 68 supporters of Sadyr Zhaparov, who rallied in front of the building of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) of the Kyrgyz Republic for an attack on law enforcement officers, a violation of public order, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Almaz Orozaliyev told today during a press conference at Kabar Agency.
He said that about 500 people-supporters of ex-deputy Sadyr Zhaparov gathered in front of the GKNB building demanding his release.
"They shouted slogans of different kinds for two hours. Several times our employees were provoked into collisions and after that, at 4.30 pm, they started throwing bottles to policemen, after they started beating policemen with wooden sticks, and then throw stones. Then, according to the law, police took measures to detain offenders. Thus, 68 people have been detained," he said.
In turn, chief of Bishkek Department of Internal Affairs Samat Kurmankulov said that a criminal case is opened on the fact of hooliganism, attack against a police officer and deliberate destruction of someone property.
Former MP Zhaparov has been detained and brought today to the State Committee for National Security. He has been detained within the framework of a criminal case initiated on the fact of threat of murder, hostage-taking, hooliganism, violence against representative of authority. He is accused of funding the rally in Karakol on October 7, 2013 aimed at destabilizing the situation in Issyk-Kul and involving in taking hostage of former governor of Issyk Kul oblast Emil Kaptagaev.
