Ali Hasanov: President Ilham Aliyev punished the official who arbitrarily demolished Haji Javad mosque
Baku, July 1, AZERTAC
"Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has punished the official who arbitrarily carried out the demolition of Haji Javad mosque," President`s Assistant for Public and Political Affairs Ali Hasanov has told AZERTAC as he commented on President Ilham Aliyev's attitude to the demolition of Haji Javad mosque in the territory of Sovetsky in Baku.
Ali Hasanov said that President Ilham Aliyev halted the demolition of Haji Javad mosque in Sovetski in April, ordered the setting up of a special commission and charged it with comprehensively investigating the situation, evaluating the technical conditions of the building and submitting relevant proposals. "After investigating the issue, the commission concluded that the demolition of the mosque was inevitable and reported this to the head of state."
"In accordance with the commission's conclusion, President Ilham Aliyev ordered to build a new mosque, taking into account the opinion of local residents, and only after that to consider the issue of the demolition of Haji Javad mosque."
Ali Hasanov said that under the instructions of the President, a land and funds were allocated for the construction of a wider, more beautiful and state-of-the-art mosque in Sharifzade Street, Yasamal district, and the construction works were launched.
"However, contrary to Mr President's instructions, some officials made an arbitrary decision to demolish Haji Javad mosque before the construction of a new one was completed. Immediately after being informed about the issue, President Ilham Aliyev ordered to seriously punish those officials," the President's Assistant said.
Ali Hasanov pointed out that the main culprit in this case, head of Yasamal District Executive Authority Ibrahim Mehdiyev, has already been dismissed.
