“People receive accurate and reliable news from agencies like AZERTAC,” said Latvian Ambassador Juris Maklakovs as he met with Director General of Azerbaijan State News Agency Aslan Aslanov.
Ambassador Maklakovs said news rapidly spread out via online journalist and social media, adding that there were many information sources: “Nevertheless people receive news from reliable agencies.” He expressed readiness to contribute to the deepening of relations between AZERTAC and Latvian LETA agency.
“There are wide opportunities for carrying out joint projects and for developing relations between AZERTAC and LETA,” he added.
Director General Aslanov said Azerbaijan had become a venue for discussing global problems. He said the Azerbaijani government attached particular importance to media issues. Mr. Aslanov said Baku would host the 16th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia Pacific News Agencies (OANA) and the 5th News Agencies World Congress in 2016, adding AZERTAC would chair these two organizations for three years.
He hailed cooperation between AZERTAC and LETA, and underlined that the Embassy could play a significant role in bringing the two agencies closer to each other. “The two agencies can contribute to the promotion of Azerbaijan in Latvia and Latvia in Azerbaijan. We can deliver news on culture, tourism potential and economy of our countries to wider audiences,” said Mr Aslanov.
