"The Azerbaijani school in Russian Orientalism" (The first half of 19th century) monograph by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Hungary, acclaimed scientist Vilayat Guliyev has been published in English by L`Harmattan publishing house. The book is based on archive material collected in the cities of Tbilisi, Kazan, Moscow and Petersburg. The author systematically and fundamentally researched scientific heritage of Azerbaijani teachers and scientists who worked at Moscow, Kazan and Petersburg universities of the Russian Empire, Institute of Oriental Languages of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Lazarev Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences and in some high schools staring from the first decades of the 19th century. As a result of his researches Vilayat Guliyev put forward a concept that proves the existence of the Azerbaijani school in Russian Orientalism. The author proves that Azerbaijani scientists like Mirza Kazim bay, Mirza Jafar Topchubashov, Mirza Abdulla Gafarov stood on the top of Russian Orientalism, with their successors considerably developing Orientalism as a branch of science.
Vilayat Guliyev, who has a long term academic career, dedicated his book to the 70th anniversary of the founding of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
