American observers have said they witnessed free, fair and transparent parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan.

Solomon Ortiz, former US congressman from Texas, said at a press-conference in Baku that that the American observers monitored the elections in Baku and other regions of Azerbaijan, and visited over 125 polling stations.

There was high turnout during the elections, which have been held within international norms, according to Ortiz.

He also hailed the installation of 1,000 web cameras in the polling stations, saying this allowed voting activity to be observed worldwide.
