Asia’s largest camera fair opens in Yokohama
Tokyo, February 13, AZERTAC
Asia's largest camera show opened in Yokohama, near Tokyo, on Thursday.
The annual fair is organized by an industrial association of major camera makers and other firms.
This year, a record-high 131 firms and groups are taking part.
Casio Computer is showing off a new digital camera that makes taking selfies easier than ever. People can check how they look on a liquid crystal screen before taking the shot. It also has an automatic function for sending photos to smartphones.
A Chinese firm is displaying the technology for filming from the air a 4K-image with a resolution higher than the current hi-vision system. The technology uses an unmanned drone.
The fair organizer says 43.4-million digital cameras were shipped last year. That figure was down more than 30 percent from the level the previous year, due mainly to spreading use of smartphones.
Camera & Imaging Products Association Chairman Tsuneji Uchida said firms have developed products for attracting people who have learned the joy of taking photos with smartphones. The new products apparently are designed to help such people become interested in using cameras.
