Aston Villa could swoop for Ashley Young as Manchester United winger waits on contract extension at Old Trafford
Baku, July 23, AZERTAC
Aston Villa could make a move to re-sign Ashley Young from Manchester United as the winger continues to wait on a new deal at Old Trafford, according to the Daily Mail.
The 30-year-old enjoyed a great comeback season for the Red Devils last term as the winger starred for Louis van Gaal's team as they fought for a place in the Premier League's top four.
However, with the signing of Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven this summer, the England international's place in the side on a regular basis is now under serious threat.
There were reports that the Red Devils were prepared to offer Young a new contract, according to the Metro. Since then, though, the winger himself has dismissed these claims and said there has been no offer as yet, increasing speculation about his future.
Indeed, the Daily Mail has now reported that Aston Villa may try and take advantage by making a summer move for the former Villa Park star – who only has one year left on his current contract.
The 30-year-old scored twice in the Premier League last season with those goals holding great importance in United's bid to finish in the top four.
His first was an injury-time winner against Newcastle United at St. James' Park to keep the pressure up on Liverpool, who were also vying for fourth place. While his second came in the Manchester derby, swinging the momentum in United's direction to guide them to a 4-2 win.
