Azerbaijan becomes member of UNESCO`s committee for protection of cultural property in event of armed conflict

Azerbaijan has become a member of UNESCO`s committee for protection of cultural property in event of armed conflict.

Established by the Second Protocol to the 1954 Hague Convention, the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict works in close co-operation with the Director-General to accomplish the following main functions: the granting, suspension or cancellation of enhanced protection, supervision of the implementation of the Second Protocol.

The Committee is composed of 12 States Parties elected for four years, which are eligible for immediate re-election only once. Half of its members are renewed every two years at the Meeting of the Parties to the Second Protocol. The Bureau of the Committee is renewed each year and its members are eligible for re-election only once in the same function.
