Azerbaijan marks 141st anniversary of National Press

A ceremony on the occasion of the 141st anniversary of the establishment of Azerbaijan's national press has today been held in Baku.

Participants in the event included the Azerbaijani President`s Assistant for Public and Political Affairs Ali Hasanov, state and government officials, MPs and well-known media representatives.

The event began with the performance of the national anthem of Azerbaijan.

In his openinig remarks, executive director of the Fund of State Support of Mass Media Development under the President of Azerbaijan Vugar Safarli congratulated journalists on “this remarkable day”. Saying the National Press Day was widely celebrated in the country, Vugar Safarli hailed “the glorious” history of the Azerbaijani press that spanned 141 years. He highlighted the government’s attention to the media.

Safarli then announced the results of a journalistic articles contest, which marked the 141st anniversary of the Azerbaijani national press. "There are a total of 114 winners," he said.

The Azerbaijani President`s Assistant for Public and Political Affairs Ali Hasanov congratulated media representatives on the occasion of the 141st anniversary of the national press day. Ali Hasanov noted “the vital” role of the national press in educating people and promoting national values. “The invaluable contribution of the press to the society and the development of national statehood allows to talk proudly about its glorious history,” he said.

The event then featured a ceremony to award winners of the journalistic articles contest.
