Azerbaijani Deputy Premier: Mechanisms to stimulate performance of health care facilities and doctors should be improved
Deputy Chairman-Executive Secretary of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP), Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov has emphasized the necessity of improving mechanisms to stimulate performance of health care facilities and doctors in the country.
“What we seek is to better address the needs of those who work in the health care sector,” he told “Reforming health care funding system in the region: options for Azerbaijan” workshop in Baku. “Shifting to compulsory health insurance system can assist us in fulfilling this task,” he added.
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted Azerbaijan’s achievements in health care system. “Major reforms have been carried out in health care system in the last decade. State-of-the-art hospitals and medical facilities have been built in Azerbaijan. These facilities are fitted with cutting-edge medical equipment. This is a vivid evidence of the government`s attention to its citizens.”
“Serious work is also carried out to increase the professionalism of medical staff. All this paved the way for elevating health care reforms in Azerbaijan to a new level. This is due to the use of new methods and improving financial system in the healthcare. There is a specific legislative framework for the application of the compulsory health insurance. We are working on new legal documents and examine the international experience in this regard,” Mr. Ahmadov added.
Other speakers at the event included World Bank Country Manager for Azerbaijan Larisa Leshchenko and former Turkish Health Minister, member of the Grand National Assembly Recep Akdag.
The workshop continued with discussions.
