Azerbaijani FM meets Latvian President

Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov has met President of Latvia Andris Berzins.

They hailed relations between the wo countries.

Mr Mammadyarov congratulated Latvia on its Presidency of the Council of the European Union, and expressed his confidence that it would be successful.

President Berzins expressed his hope that Azerbaijan will be represented at the highest level at the Eastern Partnership Riga Summit to be held on 21-22 May, 2015. He also praised energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union.

Mr Mammadyarov underlined the importance of TANAP and TAP projects in terms of the development of energy ties with the European Union.

The FM also highlighted the state of negotiations to settle the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He praised Latvia`s position on the dispute, saying it is reflected in bilateral documents signed between the two countries.

Mr Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan would be pleased to see a Latvian delegation and athletes at the First European Games. President Berzins congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting the First European Games, and added that Latvian athletes will compete in the event.
