An Azerbaijani delegation has paid a visit to Spain to attend a conference called "Contribution of interfaith dialogue to peace and multicultural life" co-organized by Azerbaijan's Embassy and Catholic University of Murcia in Madrid and Murcia.
The Azerbaijani delegation included State Adviser on Multinational, Multicultural and Religious Affairs, Academician Kamal Abdullayev, Head of the Caucasian Muslims` Board Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, Head of the State Committee for Work with Religious Associations Mubariz Gurbanli, Rector of Baku State University Abel Maharramov, as well as heads of traditional religious confessions, including Archbishop of Baku and Azerbaijan Eparchy Alexander Ishein, Chairman of the Religious Community of Mountain Jews in Baku Milikh Yevdayev and Head of the Catholic community in Azerbaijan Ordinary Vladimir Fekete.
The Azerbaijani delegation first visited the Spanish Senate to meet with its president Pio Garcia-Escudero.
State Adviser Kamal Abdulla hailed the excellent ties between Azerbaijan and Spain. He invited Pio Garcia-Escudero to pay a visit to Azerbaijan.
The President of the Spanish Senate underlined similar values linking the two countries, and emphasized the necessity of developing bilateral relations based on common interests.
He was informed that the Catholic Church was built in Baku and that Pope John Paul II and Pope Francis visited the country.
Following the meeting the Azerbaijani delegation viewed the building of the Spanish Senate and the ancient and rich library here.
The Azerbaijani delegation then visited the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport of Spain. They met with the Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport Fernando Benzo Sáinz and Secretary General on Universities Jorge Sainz Gonzalez.
State Adviser on Multinational, Multicultural and Religious Affairs, Kamal Abdullayev congratulated the Spanish side on the occasion of the establishment of a new government.
The Assistant Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport Fernando Benzo Sáinz hailed the peaceful coexistence of people of different religions in Azerbaijan.
They agreed to consider the teaching of Spanish language at Azerbaijani secondary schools and the subject of multiculturalism at Spanish universities.
They also discussed the teacher and student exchanges between the two countries' universities.
