Azerbaijan’s energy minister to attend Doha meeting of oil producers
Baku, 12 April, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Natig Aliyev will represent Azerbaijan in the meeting of oil producing countries, which will be held in Doha (Qatar) on April 17.
The importance of Azerbaijan`s participation in the meeting, which will be organized in partnership with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) member countries, including non-member countries which are major oil producers, has been stressed in the letter sent by Qatar's Energy and Industry Minister Mohammed bin Saleh Al Sada to Azerbaijan`s energy ministry.
According to the ministry, as a producer and exporter of oil, Azerbaijan considers a decline of oil prices has been influenced by political factors rather than economic, and does not meet the interests of both producing and consuming countries.
Azerbaijan welcomed the proposal to freeze oil production at the levels reported in January. In this situation, the oil production is not attractive either for producing countries, or for investors.
At a meeting in Doha in February, oil ministers from Qatar, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela agreed to freeze, but not cut oil output at the levels reported in January.
