Conference highlighting contribution of interreligious dialogue to multiculturalism held in Spain

A conference titled “Contribution of the interreligious dialogue to peace and multicultural environment” has been held in Madrid, Spain.

The event was arranged with support of Azerbaijan`s Embassy to Spain and Catholic University of Murcia.

The conference brought together State Adviser on Multinational, Multicultural and Religious Affairs, Academician Kamal Abdulla, Chairman of the Caucasian Muslim Board Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahashukur Pashazade, Head of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli, Rector of Baku State University Abel Maharramov, as well as heads of various diplomatic corps accredited in Madrid, scientific, art figures, and the Media.

Addressing the event, Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Spain Anar Maharramov said the country attached great importance to peace, religious and multicultural values. “Azerbaijan has hosted 7th Global Forum of UN Alliance of Civilizations, Baku Global Forum, Baku International Humanitarian Forum. Azerbaijan is a model country to the world in the intercultural dialogue issues,” said the Diplomat.

State Secretary for Justice Carmen Sánchez-Cortes stressed the importance of incresing the efforts to promote the tolerance across the world.

State Advisor Kamal Abdulla highlighted Azerbaijan`s experience in the field of multiculturalism. He pointed out that President Ilham Aliyev declared 2016 as the Year of Multiculturalism in Azerbaijan. On the country`s tolerance traditions, as well as its multiculturalism and religious tolerance, the State Advisor spoke about the policy carried out by the State on this front. "This policy carried out and supported by President Ilham Aliyev plays an important role in development of civil society in the country." He added.

Chairman Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahashukur Pashazade said armed conflicts in different countries, destroying cultural heritage increased the appearance of Islamophobia.

Head of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanli said that Azerbaijan has developed an exemplary model of multiculturalism, adding that representatives of different religions live in peace and harmony in Azerbaijan. The Chairman said religious values strengthened in the country according to statehood concept of national leader Heydar Aliyev.

Rector of Baku State University Abel Maharramov highlighted tolerance environment in Azerbaijan.

The event featured a demonstration of video about Azerbaijan`s multicultural values.
