Baku, February 15 , AZERTAC
Ten billion tenge will be allocated for the construction of a ferry terminal in Kuryk port to expand the transit potential of the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative and ensure the transportation of transit cargo from China to Iran, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey and further to Europe, Minister of National Economy of Kazakhstan Erbolat Dosayev was quoted by Kazakhstani media as saying at a government meeting.
Kuryk port is located 100 kilometers away from Aktau. The Borzhakty-Ersai railway line will connect ferry complex, which is under construction in the port of Kuryk, with railway network. Currently, cargo transportation by ferries from Kazakhstan to the ports of the Caspian littoral states is possible only through the port of Aktau. Furthermore, the ferry terminal at this port has been working at the limit of its capacity for the recent years. A new ferry terminal will be commissioned in Kazakhstan in the port of Kuryk on the Caspian Sea until late 2016.
Creation of the ferry terminal in Kuryk port is necessary for Kazakhstan section in the international transport corridor in direction of China-Europe. As an effect the country will get increasing incomes from the transit cargo flow service that led to growth of tax deductions and budget refill. Besides that Kazakhstan exporters will get an additional ferry infrastructure for their products transportation to the countries of Caspian region and further in direction of West.
