European Parliament’s resolution on human rights in Azerbaijan - groundless and biased
The statement says the resolution on human rights in Azerbaijan adopted by the European Parliament is absolutely groundless and biased.
“Azerbaijan has fully ensured supremacy of law, protection of human rights, freedom of expression and peaceful assembly and judicial independence. No one is persecuted or arrested for his political views and activities. In Azerbaijan, too, like in any other society in which law supremacy is ensured, no one is above the law. This biased resolution is only aimed at exerting political pressure on Azerbaijan”, says the statement.
The statement regards the emergence of such a resolution on the eve the groundbreaking ceremony of the South Gas Corridor Extension to be held on September 20 in Baku as an attempt to undermine the success of the project that will contribute to the further development of relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan and the strengthening of the EU’s energy security under the pretext of human rights.
“This resolution arising from purposeful political order and double standards against Azerbaijan proves the existence of forces within the European Parliament acting contrary to the fundamental interests of the European Union itself. Introducing themselves as heralds of human rights and democracy, such circles ignoring the violation of more than one million Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs who have been deprived of their rights demonstrate their real intention and means that they serve for double standards”.
