Germany clinch men's volleyball gold
Baku, June 28, AZERTAC
Germany have won European Games gold in the men's volleyball final, defeating Bulgaria 3-1 (25-16, 25-18, 29-31, 25-21) at Crystal Hall.
Earlier on the final day of the Games, Russia took bronze by defeating Poland, also by three sets to one (26-24, 23-25, 25-23, 25-23).
German captain Jochen Schops said afterwards, "I think at the moment, it's tough to take it all in. It was a hard game. We had maybe a little too easy of a start, but of course everyone is happy now."
"Being the first winners (of the European Games) does make it a little more special, for sure. Maybe not right now, but when we are home and we have had to think about it, it is nice to think that we will be in the history books."
On Saturday, Turkey showed their class by winning the women's competition, defeating Poland 3-0 in the final.
