Israel will be sending its largest ever sport delegation – 142 athletes – to the inaugural European Games which begin on Friday.
The first ever European Games, which is being hosted by Baku, will feature 6000 athletes, more than 600,000 spectators and is expected to attract a TV audience of more than a billion worldwide.
There will be 20 sports taking place, 12 of which will offer direct qualification for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Israeli winners of the triathlon, table tennis and shooting competitions will automatically qualify next summer’s Games, while Israel will also be represented in three of the five non-Olympic events, including 3×3 basketball and sambo.
