The powerful earthquake that struck off the Ogasawara Islands in the Pacific and shook the Japanese archipelago stranded people in high rises in central Tokyo and disrupted train services in the metropolitan region, according to Kyodo News.
More than 10 people were injured, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency. Police say no building collapse or death has been reported.
In the village of Ogasawara near the epicenter of the temblor, residents saw books fall on the floor and phones get unhooked as the quake jolted the village roughly 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo.
