Madagascar bus crash leaves ‘34 young Christians dead’ after vehicle plunged down a steep ravine during pilgrimage

AT least 34 people have been killed in a horrific bus crash in Madagascar, according to local authorities.

The shocking tragedy happened in Ankazobe, 44 miles north-west of Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo, minister of transport Benjamina Ramarcel is quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency.

The vehicle – which was carrying a group of young Christian worshippers –plunged down a steep ravine in Madagascar, police and hospital officials said today.

Commander Andilaratiana Andrianarisaona, spokesperson for the police, told Le Figaro: “The bus … fell into a ravine of about 20m (65ft) and it caught fire after rolling over several times.”

Cops said 12 badly burned bodies were counted at the site after the late-night crash, while hospitals said another 22 other fatalities had been confirmed.

Pastor Saholy, who organised the trip and witnessed the smash, said it happened last night at around midnight local time.
