Magnitude 5.9 quake hits Okinawa, Japan

A powerful 5.9-magnitude earthquake has rocked Japan's southern coast of Okinawa prefecture, at a depth of 40 km, said Japan's Meteorological Agency.

The threat of a tsunami has not been announced. No damage and casualties have yet been reported.
