With contract negotiations for Neymar all but completed, one of the big questions on everyone's lips is whether the Brazilian will stand to earn more than Lionel Messi, according to MARCA. On the face of it, the answer is seemingly yes, Neymar's 25 million euros per season deal comfortably surpassing La Pulga's current agreement with the Blaugrana - but in reality, things are a little more complicated than they appear. The wheels on Neymar's new contract were set in motion back in January, when PSG emerged as a serious contender for the forward's signature. At the time, the Ligue 1 champions were prepared to pay the release clause of 190m euros and 40m euros a season in net earnings. Although the move didn't happen, it was then that the Camp Nou officials started plotting a new deal to keep Neymar at Barcelona. Virtually agreed with the intention to sign on Friday, the contract extension will include a fixed sum of 15m euros and another of around 10m in additional revenue, depending on appearances and other performance-related criteria. In total, the final sum of 25 million is three more than Messi receives in fixed income, but will in all likelihood not surpass the Argentine's total salary once bonuses and image rights are included. Messi, of course, is also in line to renew his contract this season, and it is now safe to assume he will also receive a raise too. As so often seems to be the case, the No. 10 is waiting in the wings to take the lead once again.
