Pele auction to raise £3.5m as football icon sells off World Cup medals and Escape to Victory boots

The Brazil legend is selling off a huge collection of his treasured items including his own replica of the Jules Rimet trophy and the ball he scored his 1000th goal with.

Football fans wanting to grab a slice of sporting history are in for a treat next month as Pele punts his most treasured mementos.

The 75-year-old Brazil legend is to auction off all the memorabilia he has accumulated in a lifetime in the game.

As well as iconic items such as his three World Cup winner's medals and the boots he scored his 1000th goal with there is also a vast collection of objects presented to him over the years to mark his achievements from crowns and ceremonial daggers to model ships, clocks and freedom-of-the-city keys.

A proportion of the money raised over three days at the London auction will go the Pequeno Principe paediatric hospital in Brazil with the sale set to raise £3.5m.
