Baku, July 28, AZERTAC

UEFA president Michel Platini is to announce his candidacy for FIFA president in the coming days according to French sports paper L'Equipe.

Platini, who attended the Gold Cup final in Philadelphia at the weekend, is working on the final details of his declaration, the paper said without giving a source for its information.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, the 60-year-old Platini will reportedly say on Thursday he is standing for president of the scandal-hit global football governing body.

An extraordinary congress is to be held February 26, 2016, to elect a new president after incumbent Joseph Blatter said he would lay down his mandate just days after being elected again on May 29.
