Mass media of Turkey pays close attention to the preparatory work for the first European Games to take place in 2015 in Baku.

Mass media of the brotherly country write about the European Games which will be held for the first time and about Azerbaijan where these sports contests will take place. In articles, it is said that in Games which will take place from June 12 to June 28, 2015, more than 6 thousand athletes from 49 countries will compete on 20 sports: “The Games which will be held once in four years, will become good opportunity for athletes to test themselves before the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, and in some sports will have qualifying character”.

It is noted that in Azerbaijan where since 2002, there were held 36 international competitions in different types of sport – taekwando, gymnastics, volleyball, football, etc., in June current year the European Championship On Rhythmic Gymnastics took place. For 23 years of independence, Azerbaijan participates with more than 200 athletes at the Summer and Winter Olympic Games and has won at these games 26 medals, in the European and world champs – 2000 medals.

In articles it is noted that the first Olympic Games in Azerbaijan will take place on 21 platforms. For this purpose new arenas are under construction, the existing platforms are under repair, and get ready: In “Baku Crystal Hall” where passed the “Eurovision- 2012” song competition, will be held competitions in handball and other sports. Meanwhile, the Olympic town on 7300 places is under construction in the capital of Azerbaijan.

Mass media pay attention that the opening ceremony will take place in the Baku Olympic Stadium on 65 thousand places construction of which is underway. It is highlighted that President Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the president of FIFA Sepp Blatter and president of UEFA Michel Platini have participated in the ceremony of groundbreaking of the stadium.

The European Games were established at the meeting of General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee on December 9, 2012 in Rome. At the meeting of General Assembly the right for carrying out the games was granted to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. The Organizing Committee responsible for carrying out the European Games in Baku was created by the Order of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, dated January 17, 2013. The Committee is headed by the first lady of Azerbaijan, the president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva.

In the materials published in the Turkish mass media it is noted that Heydar Aliyev Foundation held series of events connected with presentation of the first European Games “Baku-2015” in several countries. It is noted that the actions devoted to presentation of the first European Games were carried out in Cannes, Athens and Berlin.
