Riga will host the next Summit of EU Capital City Mayors in 2017, according to LETA news agency.
The decision was made yesterday and supported by the mayors of Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Bratislava, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Helsinki, Lisbon, Ljubljana, London, Luxembourg, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Riga, Rome, Tokyo, Stockholm, Tallinn, Valletta, Vienna, Vilnius, Warsaw and Zagreb.
The summit, which is currently being held in Amsterdam, has gathered the mayors of EU capitals to discuss various matters.
''In addition to discussing matters like employment, transportation, municipal services and others, which are the topics usually discussed at these meetings, we in Riga would like to also discuss innovations, information and technology in municipal administration as well as air quality. We also cannot ignore such important aspects as the migrant crisis and EU unity,'' Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs said at a press conference in Amsterdam.
