Role of media in information society development discussed in Baku

A conference on "The role of the media in the development of information society" has been co-organized by Global Career Institute, Istanbul Yeni Yuzyil University and Azerbaijan Press Council in Baku.

Addressing the event, chairman of Azerbaijan Press Council, MP Aflatun Amashov stressed the importance of the conference in terms of developing relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey and exchanging experience between the two countries' media representatives. Saying Turkey was the first country to recognize Azerbaijan's independence, Aflatun Amashov hailed “the brotherly country`s” role in promoting Azerbaijani realities in the world.

Editor-in-chief of Yeni Azerbaijan newspaper, MP Hikmat Babaoglu noted that in post-modern societies the media served as a means of power or influence.

Director of Global Career Institute Orkhan Hasanoglu pointed to the existence of serious information warfare in the modern era, emphasizing the crucial role of the media in this process.

Dean of the Department of Journalism at Istanbul Yeni Yuzyil University, professor Aysel Aziz made a presentation on "The role of the media in the development of information society".
