Ljubljana, February 15, AZERTAC
Slovenian FM Karl Erjavec has said the UN resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be fulfilled.
In an interview with AZERTAC, he said Slovenia backs peaceful resolution of the dispute. “The efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group are of great importance. The resolutions of the Unite Nations that were adopted many years ago must be fulfilled. Azerbaijan stands for stability in the region.” Mr Erjavec described Azerbaijan as “guarantor of peace in the region”. “So I emphasize that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be solved peacefully.”
The Slovenian FM hailed his country`s relations with Azerbaijan, saying the two countries` people have very close ties.
Mr Erjavec said he is planning to visit Azerbaijan accompanied by a large delegation. “Trade between our countries makes approximately 15 million US dollars, this falls behind our potential. We can increase the figure. We have wide opportunities for cooperation in the fields of energy, pharmaceutics, automobile industry, etc.”
He said this year will see the founding of an Azerbaijani-Slovenian economic cooperation commission. “We are also conducting negotiations towards signing agreements in the fields of culture and education.” He said Azerbaijani Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov will pay a visit to Slovenia.
The FM also praised political ties between Azerbaijan and Slovenia. He recalled President Ilham Aliyev`s attending a ceremony to open a museum of legendary Mikhaylo in Slovenia in 2011. “We plan to open our embassy in Azerbaijan, this certainly depends on our budget. I believe that Slovenia`s Embassy in Azerbaijan will open in 2016,” said Mr Erjavec.
The Slovenian FM hailed Azerbaijan as “an important partner” of the European Union. He said that as a EU member, Slovenia is interested in participating in energy projects. Mr Erjavec noted the importance of boosting Azerbaijan-EU trade.
He also lauded the role of recently-opened Honorary Consulate of Slovenia in Azerbaijan in developing relations between the two countries.
