Two police officers were martyred when a makeshift explosive planted by PKK terrorists hit an armored police vehicle on a highway in southeastern Diyarbakir province Tuesday, local police said, according to Anadolu Agency.

Four other policemen in the armored vehicle were wounded in the incident on the Diyarbakir-Silvan Highway, police said.

An operation has been launched in the area to nab the terrorists, they added.

Since July, official figures suggest more than 200 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1,700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq, including airstrikes.
