Varga turns tables on Alipov in mixed trap final
Baku, June 18, AZERTAC
Erik Varga took revenge on Alexey Alipov for his defeat in the men's trap final by guiding Slovakia to victory over Russia in the mixed team event on Thursday afternoon.
Varga and his partner Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova beat Alipov and women's trap bronze medallist Elena Tkach 27-21 in a one-sided final at Baku Shooting Centre.
"Today is something special because men and women never shot together before," said Rehak Stefecekova. "It is the first European Games, the first competition like this and we won the gold medal, so I can't imagine a better day."
In the bronze medal match, San Marino's Manuel Mancini and Alessandra Perilli defeated Spain's Alberto Fernandez and women's trap winner Fatima Galvez in a shoot-off.
It meant all three of San Marino's shooting team left the Baku 2015 European Games with a medal after Alessandra's sister, Arianna Perilli, won silver in the women's trap on Tuesday.
Mancini said: "It's 100 per cent, not bad at all for such a small country."
