Azerbaijani, Argentine FM give joint press conference
Baku, March 2 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov and his Argentine counterpart Hector Timerman have today held a joint press conference following their meeting.
Mammadyarov praised the results of the meeting, adding “there is good opportunity for Argentina and Azerbaijan to strengthen cooperation in political, economic and other spheres”.
The Azeri Minister recalled recent meeting of G20 in Mexico, where he and his Argentine counterpart exchanged views over development of bilateral relations between the two countries.
He hailed the Azerbaijani embassy`s contribution to building inter-governmental relations. “The embassy has made a great job despite short term of activity. The major achievement was the organization of a first official visit of the Argentine foreign minister to Azerbaijan.”
He said Argentina is interested in close economic cooperation with Azerbaijan.
“During the meeting we also agreed to continue our political dialogue, as well as cooperation between the diplomatic academies of Azerbaijan and Argentina, and the exchange of students,” Mammadyarov noted.
According to the Azeri Minister, the meeting also discussed Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and ongoing political processes in the region.
Timerman said both Azerbaijan and Argentina have rich natural resources and huge economic potential.
The Argentine Minister stressed Argentina recognizes Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity, adding “we think that Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be settled within international legal norms. And that is why UN resolutions on immediate liberation of Azerbaijani occupied territories must be fulfilled”.
Timerman expressed assurance Azerbaijan will be a reliable ally of Argentina in the region, adding “Argentina is also ready to be reliable ally of Azerbaijan in Latin America”.
