Azerbaijani FM: Unsettlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict damages aggressor itself
Baku, February 4 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani foreign minister Elmar Mammadyarov has presented Azerbaijan`s position in the meeting on the Security and Stability in the South-Eastern Europe and Caucasus on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, according to the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry.
Mammadyarov noted because of Armenian aggression, South Caucasus still faces an uncertain future stressing that in order to ensure enduring stability and sustainable development in the region Armenian armed forces should withdraw from Azerbaijan`s occupied territories. Minister Mammadyarov said forced deportation of Azerbaijani people from occupied territories and the ethnic cleansing by Armenia and its efforts to mislead and deceive the international community were unacceptable.
Speaking about dynamic economic development of Azerbaijan, Mammadyarov drew attention to the country`s geographical and geopolitical importance. Regarding Azerbaijan`s role in ensuring European energy security the minister remarked that the development of non-energy sectors is of strategic importance for Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani foreign minister also talked about successful model of regional development in the South Caucasus and singled out the continuing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan as the main barrier for further enhancement of regional cooperation. He went on to underline that the sooner the conflict is resolved the better it would be for the future development of the region. The minister also highlighted that the protraction of the conflict resolution impacts negatively on Armenia. He emphasized that due to its aggressive policy, Armenia is unable to benefit from regional cooperation and called on those losing the opportunity to develop to join the ranks of those who are in the process of development.
