AZERBAIJAN’s CONSULATE-GENERAL IN YEKATERINBURG MARKS REPUBLIC DAY
Moscow, May 31 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan’s consulate general in Yekaterinburg has organized an official reception marking May 28th - the Republic Day.
Consul General Sultan Gasimov highlighted the holiday`s history.
“92 years ago - on May 28th, 1918 - the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, a first democracy in the Muslim East, was established.” Gasimov described the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic as “a constitutional and secular state”, saying: “It was a first state in the Muslim East which granted the right to vote to women.”
He also praised national leader Heydar Aliyev`s services to Azerbaijan, saying “he saved the country when it was on the verge of losing its independence in 1993”.
“The national leader`s returning to power was what helped to stabilize the situation,” added Gasimov.
The consul general also praised President Ilham Aliyev`s role in Azerbaijan`s development, saying “led by the president, the country has been resolutely moving forward on the path towards all-round development and progress”.
Lyudmila Babushkina, chairwoman of Sverdlovsk`s Upper House, and Alexander Kharlov, deputy Chairman of the Sverdlovsk Government, congratulated the Azerbaijani people on the occasion.
The event featured a film on Azerbaijan`s history and a concert of Azeri musicians.
