European Commission adopts first part of 2012 Regional Action Programme for the EN
Baku, August 3 (AZERTAC). The European Commission has adopted the first part of the 2012 Regional Action Programme for the Eastern Neighbourhood which will focus on the areas of environment and transport.
The adopted decisions first of all refer to improvement of transport communication system and environment protection.
The financial support for Eastern Partnership program is realized through the money asserts of the main program’s financial apparatus ENPI.
€22 millions were allocated for the realization of the first part of the plan. USD 9 millions will be used for prolongation of executive term of Forest Protection Program, USD 10 million for improvement of the regional economical system, USD 3 millions for development of transport sphere within TRACECA program.
In terms of the environment, it will encourage partner countries to move towards green economies by promoting sustainable production and consumption processes; for example, by supporting cleaner techniques and the efficient use of resources in the manufacturing, agriculture, construction and agro-industry sectors, as well as promoting green financing and green procurement. It will also enhance forest protection in the region by supporting forest law enforcement and governance.
On transport, the funding will support the Eastern Partnership and Central Asian countries implementing a Regional Road Safety Action Plan, which will help make the road infrastructure safer for vehicles and road users in these countries.
Areas such as the environment, climate change or transport know no borders. The European Commission is interested to work together with the Eastern partners to make our Neighbourhood to become a greener and safer place for everyone who lives there.
The funding comes from the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI). This is the main financial and cooperation instrument though which the assistance is given to the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP) countries and Russia.
Eastern Neighbourhood countries are Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Armenia and Ukraine.
