PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV VISITS GYEONGBOKGUNG PALACE
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva visited Gyeongbokgung palace in Seoul on April 24.
This palace was built in 1394 during the reign of King Taejo of the Joseon dynasty (1392-1910).
Parts of the palace were burnt down during the Japanese invasion in 1593. Despite the failure to restore the palace to its former glory, it was reconstructed 1868 as a massive 330 building complex with 5,792 rooms. It was destroyed again during the war in 1950-1953. Rebuilding of the palace began in 1990. The gates of the palace are scheduled to be restored by 2009.
President Ilham Aliyev toured the rooms of the palace, saw the park and artificial lake here and familiarized himself with the design of the palace.
President Ilham Aliyev was presented with a booklet on the palace.
