Tbilisi hosts meeting of Georgia-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Economic Commission
Tbilisi, December 20 (AZERTAC). The 7th meeting of the Georgia-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Economic Commission has today been held in Georgia,
The Azerbaijani delegation led by Prime Minister Artur Rasizade attended the event.
Prior to the meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation laid a wreath at the monument to Georgian martyrs who gave their lives for the country`s territorial integrity.
The delegation also put flowers at the monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev in Tbilisi.
Then, Prime Ministers Artur Rasizade of Azerbaijan and Nika Gilauri of Georgia met in private.
Addressing the meeting of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission, Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri welcomed Azerbaijani delegation, noted that the Georgian-Azerbaijani relations were very important from a strategic viewpoint.
Gilauri said Azerbaijan was one of the countries which invested the most capital in Georgia. The largest tax paid to the budget of Georgia by Azerbaijani companies.
“We jointly signed the regional and historical projects, are building a bridge between Europe and Asia. As an example we may say such projects as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline and the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars.”
Azerbaijan`s Prime Minister Artur Rasizade noted cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia should be an example for others. Artur Rasizade said Azerbaijan praises cooperation with Georgia and attaches great importance to development of these relations. He stressed relationship between the two countries were steady developing.
The Azeri PM underlined the two countries gained great achievements in the political, economics and humanitarian fields.
He added Georgia was a strategic partner, friendly and fraternal country for Azerbaijan.
Rasizade also congratulated the Georgian people on the occasion of the New Year.
The meeting ended with the sighing of a protocol.
Azerbaijan`s ambassador to Georgia Azer Huseyn and Georgian ambassador to Azerbaijan Teymuraz Sharashenidze were present at the meeting of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission,
After the meeting, the Prime Ministers held a press conference.
They said Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway would be constructed either at the end of 2012 or not later than the beginning of 2013.
Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili also received Azerbaijan`s Prime Minister Artur Rasizade.
