Tbilisi prepares for the first South Caucasian Contemporary Dance and Experimental Art Festival
Tbilisi, May 29 (AZERTAC). The South Caucasian Contemporary Dance and Experimental Art Festival, which is a completely new idea to contribute to continuous development and innovation, will start in Tbilisi, Georgia, at the Royal District Theatre, on June 2-9.
The festival will bring together Georgian, Azerbaijani, Russian, Swiss, French, Austrian and Croatian dancers.
The festival was initiated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) together with the Georgian NGO Platform for Changes, and this idea was later supported by the Tbilisi Mayor and Europe House Georgia.
According to the festival`s Director, Tamuna Gurchiani, “the idea was ignited by the Swiss Agency`s Regional Director, Rudolf Schoch, as he has lived in Georgia for several years and saw that contemporary ballet needs some innovation and development. According to her, during the first stage, the agency allocated all the necessary financial resources and later Tbilisi`s Mayor and other supporters joined in.
Along with the various modern performances, special debates focusing on the prospects for development of modern dance and performance art in countries with strong ballet traditions will also be presented, with the participation of Tokio- Zvonimir Dobrovic, as well as Georgian choreographer Mariam Alexidze, Journalist David Bukhrikidze and representatives from the Ministry of Culture of Azerbaijan.
At Tbilisi`s Hippodrome, Georgian, and Azerbaijan painters together with the Belgian street artist of Georgian origin, Zuka Mikaberidze, will also apply graffiti to the walls of the newly opened underground.
