Ukrainia`s OSCE chairmanship will support OSCE Minsk group`s activity
Baku, February 6 (AZERTAC). “Ukrainia`s OSCE chairmanship will support the activity of the OSCE Minsk group in the peaceful settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” said Ukrainian ambassador to Azerbaijan Alexander Mishchenko at a press conference on the 21st anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The ambassador also spoke about the Azerbaijan-Ukraine bilateral relations in 2012, as well as prospects for cooperation.
The ambassador underlined that currently, 8 interstate agreements were being developed. They also include the cooperation agreement between the education ministries and agreement on protection and quarantine of plants. Mishchenko said at present, about 4 000 Azerbaijanis are studying at Ukraine’s universities and underlined the importance of extending cooperation in exchange of students between the two countries.
The ambassador said the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Ukraine made $900 mln. last year and underlined this figure reduced by $490 mln compared to 2011. He also said the meetings of intergovernmental commission and Azerbaijan-Ukraine Council of Presidents will be held this year and developing prospects of bilateral relations will be discussed at these meetings.
According to the ambassador, Ukrainian companies according plan to participate in projects during preparation for the first European Olympic Games to be held in Baku in 2015. Participation issues will be considered at the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission.
He also noted that a new building is building for the Ukrainian embassy in Baku. The ambassador also expressed the interest of Ukraine in delivering natural gas from Azerbaijan.
