UN adopts resolution proposed by Azerbaijan
Baku, December 21 (AZERTAC). General Assembly of UN has adopted a number of resolutions on December 20 including, a draft resolution on missing persons proposed by Azerbaijan and co-authored by 72 other countries which was accepted without a vote.
“States parties to armed conflict were called on to take all measures to prevent persons from going missing, account for persons reported missing, and ensure the investigation and prosecution of offences linked to missing persons” said Azerbaijan Permanent Representative.
The conflicting states also were called on to take timely measures to determine the identity and fate of persons reported missing.
Resolution states the right of the family members of missing persons to acknowledge information on the faith of their relatives and calls the countries to inform them about the results.
It welcomes Secretary-General to make reports on implementation of regulations in Assembly`s 69th session.
