Werner Von Siemens` recollections translated into Azerbaijani language
Berlin, October 1 (AZERTAC). Organized by the ANAS Institute of History named after A. A. Bakikhanov, German inventor and industrialist of the 19th century, Ernst Werner von Siemens` recollections on his trip to the Caucasus were translated from German into the Azerbaijani language for the first time.
The book entitled “Trips to the Caucasus” was translated by young Azerbaijani scientist of the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF), PhD Azer Babayev.
Werner was one of the discoverers of the principle of the self-acting dynamo as well as more basic scientific discoveries, determining the electrical resistance of different substances. He earned a prominent position among the multitude of awards for achievements in science and technology.
In 1890, Werner in his handbook titled “Lebenserinnerungen” (“Memories”) wrote about his unforgettable trips to the Caucasus. Stories bring to life the adventures, inventions and entrepreneurial achievements of the inventor.
In 1865 and 1883, brothers Carl and Werner Siemens built two copper-smelting plants in Gadabay and a hydroelectric station in Galakand. In the 1860s, it initiated cobalt extraction in Dashkasan and built two power stations in Baku.
Having visited Gadabay and its beautiful surroundings, including the Valley of Chamkhor Chai River called “Paradise”, the travelers proceeded to Baku, or “black city” to visit its famous oil wells.
Werner von Siemens was always very interested in science and technology. His inventions changed the world and laid the foundation for many innovations. His enormous knowledge and commitment as an entrepreneur made him one of the most successful electricity pioneers of his day. Werner von Siemens officially retired from the business in 1890.
