The latest feature in AZERTAC’s “If I Were a Tourist” column highlights the hidden tourism gem of Azerbaijan’s Ismayilli district – the Ashigbayramli Lake.
What comes to your mind when you think of Ismayilli? Is it the Lahij and Ivanovka villages, or maybe the Basgal settlement?
In recent years, however, a new destination has joined this list: the Ashigbayramli Lake, nestled in the embrace of nature, surrounded by lush greenery and majestic mountains. Everyone who visits here delights in the perfect harmony of tranquility, fresh air, and captivating landscapes.

Named after the Ashigbayramli village, this reservoir was commissioned in 1952 to irrigate 1,900 hectares of farmland. Once vital solely for agriculture, this water reservoir has now turned into one of Ismayilli's most fascinating leisure spots.
The spectacular sight of the first morning rays glinting across the water, the evening sunlight dancing on the lake, and the serene silence encompassing the area make every moment spent here truly unforgettable.

Reconstruction works carried out in 2021 breathed new life into the Ashigbayramli Lake. The lake’s water capacity was expanded, the surrounding territory was fully renovated, and the entrance area was modernized. The reservoir holds strategic significance not only for tourism, but also for agriculture, improving the water supply of neighboring villages and enabling the continuous irrigation of nearly one thousand hectares of arable land. Additionally, the Ashigbayramli reservoir serves as one of the primary water sources feeding the Yekakhana reservoir in the Goychay district.
Located right along the Garamaryam–Shaki highway, this charming destination lures thousands of local and foreign tourists annually. Visitors can embark on gentle boat tours across the lake, immerse themselves in nature’s calm, gaze at the magnificent mountain panoramas, and capture memorable moments in photos to cherish forever.
