The foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye discussed arrangements for an urgent meeting of the three countries' chiefs of staff to consider ways to support Saudi Arabia under the Mecca defense agreement, Anadolu Agency reported citing the Saudi Gazette.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Ishaq Dar and Hakan Fidan held consultations at the headquarters of Saudi Arabia's permanent mission to the UN in New York.
The ministers reviewed ongoing preparations for the chiefs of staff meeting, which will examine mechanisms for supporting Saudi Arabia in line with commitments under the defense pact.
The Mecca agreement stipulates that an attack against any one of its parties constitutes an attack against all parties.
During the meeting, the ministers "strongly condemned" attacks attempting to target Mecca as well as civilian and economic facilities in Saudi Arabia.
They discussed the latest regional developments and stressed the importance of upholding international law, good-neighborly relations, mutual respect for state sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
They also underlined the importance of ensuring the security and freedom of maritime navigation.
The ministers renewed their commitment to working toward sustainable peace and stability in the region, supporting efforts to de-escalate tensions and advancing peaceful solutions to ongoing crises.
