“There are dates that need no explanation. It is enough simply to mention them for an entire nation to fall silent. September 27 is such a date for Azerbaijan,” said Ricardo Sánchez Serra in his article published in the Peruvian daily newspaper Guik.
The article notes that September 27 is Remembrance Day in Azerbaijan, when the memory of the Azerbaijani soldiers and officers who fell in the Patriotic War is honored.
It is reported that the war, which began on September 27, 2020, and lasted 44 days, marked a significant milestone in Azerbaijan’s modern history. According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense, 2,908 military personnel were martyred in the battles, six went missing, and approximately 11,110 were wounded.
The author underlines that September 27 is not merely the anniversary of a historical event for Azerbaijanis, but also a day of remembrance, mourning, and gratitude.
Commemoration days dedicated to those who lost their lives in wars are also observed in various countries around the world. Memorial Day in the United States, Remembrance Sunday in the United Kingdom, and Armistice Day in France are examples of this tradition of remembrance.
