Baku, October 11, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan provided financial assistance to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
“In October this year, Azerbaijan, reaffirming its commitment to always standing beside the Palestinian people in difficult times and as a sign of loyalty to Islamic solidarity, has made available 200,000 USD of financial assistance for the 2018 operating budget of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, which is currently facing severe financial difficulties,” Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry has told AZERTAC.
Founded in 1948, the UNRWA Agency has been based on the shared objective of providing assistance for more than 5 million Palestinian refugees in the Middle East in the field of education, primary health care, humanitarian aid in emergencies and rendering social services of Palestine refugees and to promoting stability. As the Agency facing the shortfall in its budget, it could impact the services and sustainability of programs the Agency provides to millions of Palestinian refugees across the Middle East. In this vein, various campaigns are being carried out by the international community in support of UNRWA and steps are being taken by some countries for providing additional assistance to the Agency.
