13 killed as van rams into pedestrians in Barcelona
Baku, August 17, AZERTAC
At least 13 people have been killed in the Spanish city of Barcelona as a car plowed into pedestrians, TASS reports citing local media.
According to the El Periodico daily, 20 to 25 people have been injured. Local police have confirmed fatalities in the car ramming incident.
The Barcelona police consider the incident, which happened on a tourist-heavy street, to be a terrorist attack, Agence France-Presse said.
The incident occurred in the La Rambla area. According to the El Pais daily, the driver has not been detained yet. Several gunshots have been heard near the La Boqueria market in the city center.
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy wrote on Twitter that he has been in contact with the local authorities and emergencies agencies.
