ADVERTISING MUST MEET REQUIREMENTS OF THE LAW ON STATE LANGUAGE
At the regular sitting of the Milli Mjlis standing commission on economic policy, its members have discussed the draft law “On Introducing Amendments and Supplements to Some Legislative Acts of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Connection with Application of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On State Language in the Republic of Azerbaijan” and recognition of the Resolution of the Milli Mjlis “On Coming of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On State Language in the Republic of Azerbaijan” into effect of 22 December 1992” as Invalid; agreements signed between the Republic of Azerbaijan and governments of Romania, Federative Republic of Germany, United Arab Emirates and Austria; Azerbaijan joining e number of international conventions; amendments and supplements to some laws.
The commission Chairman Sattar Safarov noted that some businessmen and advertising agencies continue to follow old laws with respect to the state language. In accordance with the new law, texts on advertising boards placed in the streets, squares etc. must be first written in Azerbaijani, and the letters’ size must be not less than those written in other languages.
During the debate, members of the commission noted that intergovernmental agreements signed covered customs issues between countries, elimination of double taxation of incomes and property, financial cooperation and other spheres. Finally, they decided to submit the drafts for the Milli Majlis discussion.
