AGASI MAMMADOV WINS WORLD CHAMP

AzerTac correspondent has learned from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Tourism that Agasi Mammadov /54 weight class/ had gained gold medal in the world boxing championship in Thailand beating European vice-champion Gennadiy Kovalyov of Russia 17:8. Here, our compatriot left all his rivals far behind. Of special importance for him was his victory over Cuban Guilermo Ortis who had earlier beaten Agasi twice at various tournaments. So, for the first time in the history of Azerbaijani boxing, the national team returns home from the world championship with three medals: earlier, bronze medals have been gained by Tofik Ahmadov /64 kg/ and Ruslan Khairov /69 kg/.
