AZERBAIJANIS OF NEW YORK MARK SOLIDARITY DAY
Azerbaijan’s permanent mission to the United Nations hosted a meeting to mark the World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day and New Year in New York.
During the event, President Ilham Aliyev’s address to world Azerbaijanis on the occasion of the holiday was read out.
Permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Agshin Mehdiyev told of important accomplishments that Azerbaijan has achieved to build the national state system. Ambassador stressed that Azerbaijan, which has become a regional leader in terms of economic potential and level of democratic development, has created a basis for uniting around the national interests of Azerbaijan. According to him, the work of Azerbaijani community organizations in New York is praiseworthy.
President of the Azerbaijan-New York Association Ali Nasibov called on the young generation of Azerbaijanis in America to take an active part in the Sunday schools and dance band.
In its first issue, the “Association” newspaper highlighted the articles on Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage damaged by Armenians in the occupied lands of Azerbaijan as well as the history of Karabakh, Republic of Azerbaijan.
Representative of the Azerbaijani community of mountain Jews, writer Rashbil Shamayev congratulated members of Azerbaijani community on the Solidarity Day. He placed a particular emphasis on the meetings of world Azerbaijanis held in 2001 and 2006 in Baku.
