VOn July 10, Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan, General-colonel Safar Abiyev met with Ambassador of France to Azerbaijan Mrs. Chantal Poiret and military attachй, colonel Francis Monkobeg.Welcoming the guests, Safar Abiyev stated that establishment of the relations in the military and other spheres between Azerbaijan and France deserves approval. Having thanked for the warm reception, Mrs. Poiret asked about the reasons for recent aggravation of the situation on the contact line of the Armenian and Azerbaijani troops, and issues discussed during the meeting of the Ministers of Defense of Azerbaijan and Armenia.Mr. Abiyev noted that main reason is the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, the second is that international community does not undertake any measures as for the Armenian aggression, and the third one is that the aggressive Armenia feels its impunity. General-colonel Abiyev announced that during the meeting with Armenian Defense Minister Serge Sarkisyan they agreed that both sides would undertake decisive steps preventing cease-fire regime violation. ‘But fresh from the negotiations, in the evening of the same day, Armenian side violated cease-fire regime along the contact line in Tovuz and Gazakh regions of Azerbaijan’. The sides touched on the issues of settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict: expressing his attitude to the matter, S. Abiyev stressed that the problem ‘must be solved on the base of the norms of international law, in the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Armenia should declare that Nagorno Garabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan’. Then, Safar Abiyev thanked military attachй, general Francis Monkobeg completing his mission in the Republic of Azerbaijan for his work realized in the field of deepening of Azerbaijani-French military relations and wished him every success.Mr. Monkobeg, in his turn dwelt on the work he had been carried out in Azerbaijan, and expressed his regret about completion of his mission in Azerbaijan.
